Revitalizing the mission to cure degenerative blindness

International non-profit organization Choroideremia Research Foundation is dedicated to find a treatment or cure for Choroideremia, a rare inherited retinal degenerative disease that causes blindness. In 2008, they took on the challenge to raise funds to support their mission online.

Helping develop a new identity for Choroideremia Research Foundation required a clear understanding of those fighting the disease. I worked with the foundation to establish an identity treatment that incorporated the unique elements of choroideremia. The disease affects the retina of the eye and predominately men. These distinct features of the disease were communicated by integrating a representation of retina blood vessels into that logo and a masculine color system. In order to meet their challenge to start raising funds for their research online, CRF knew they had to turn their website into an informative, viable donation channel. I designed a user experience that simplified the donation process and clarified their cause while giving a human face to those fighting the disease.
